A threat actor has reportedly put up for sale a database allegedly belonging to Bitfinex, one of the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchanges. According to the claim, the database contains a total of 7,492,948 user records, divided into inactive, disabled, and active accounts.
The threat actor revealed that the breach occurred on August 15, 2024, and despite multiple attempts to sell the database back to Bitfinex, the company has not disclosed the breach to the public. As a result, the database has now been offered for sale. The price for the complete database is set at 25 BTC. Communication will be conducted exclusively via TOX, and escrow will only be handled through a verified forum.
