Chinese Threat Actor Used Modified Cobalt Strike Variant to Attack Taiwanese Critical Infrastructure
EclecticIQ researchers identified a malicious web server very likely operated by a Chinese threat actor used to target Taiwanese government entities, including critical infrastructure.
The command-and-control infrastructure was publicly exposed to the internet. Based on log and meta data found on the server, EclecticIQ analysts assess with high confidence the threat actor performed offensive cyber operations, including reconnaissance, malware delivery, and post-exploitation against selected targets.…

On May 11 2023, Essential Addons for Elementor, a WordPress plugin with over one million active installations, released a patch for a critical vulnerability that made it possible for any unauthenticated user to reset arbitrary user passwords, including user accounts with administrative-level access. This vulnerability was discovered and responsibly disclosed by security researcher Rafie Muhammed.…
Note: This joint Cybersecurity Advisory (CSA) is part of an ongoing #StopRansomware effort to publish advisories for network defenders that detail various ransomware variants and ransomware threat actors. These #StopRansomware advisories include recently and historically observed tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) and indicators of compromise (IOCs) to help organizations protect against ransomware.…
Malvertising seems to be enjoying a renaissance as of late, whether it is from ads on search engine results pages or via popular websites. Because browsers are more secure today than they were 5 or 10 years ago, the attacks that we are seeing all involve some form of social engineering.…
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) are releasing this joint Cybersecurity Advisory (CSA) in response to the active exploitation of CVE-2023-27350. This vulnerability occurs in certain versions of PaperCut NG and PaperCut MF and enables an unauthenticated actor to execute malicious code remotely without credentials.…
This blog post will analyze the CLR SqlShell malware that is being used to target MS-SQL servers. Similar to WebShell, which can be installed on web servers, SqlShell is a malware strain that supports various features after being installed on an MS-SQL server, such as executing commands from threat actors and carrying out all sorts of malicious behavior.…

Occasionally, FortiGuard Labs researchers come across a file name or e-mail subject that makes us sit up and take notice. Of course, it may turn out to be nothing. But every once in a while, one of these turns out to be incredibly interesting.…
AhnLab Security Emergency response Center (ASEC) has recently discovered XMRig CoinMiner being installed on poorly managed Linux SSH servers. The attacks have been happening with a distinct pattern since 2022: they involve the usage of malware developed with Shell Script Compiler (SHC) when installing the XMRig, as well as the creation of a backdoor SSH account.…
