Panasonic Avionics Corporation (PAC), revealed that they suffered a cyberattack at the end of 2022, which may have led to the leak of personal information related to employees.
According to Panasonic, the internal network systems of PAC were compromised in a cyberattack. The breach was discovered approximately a year ago, on December 30, 2022, and an investigation ensued with external assistance.
By early December 2023, the investigation concluded, revealing the potential leak of personal information of current and former employees from Panasonic’s Avionics Business Unit (ABU) and PAC. Information such as names, phone numbers, bank account numbers, and human resources and employment-related data might have been compromised.
In response to inquiries, the specific number of affected individuals remains undisclosed. Details regarding the cause of the breach, the point of entry, and whether any threats were made have not been revealed. This incident, as clarified, was confined to a limited network within PAC, and they denied any leak of confidential information other than employee data. The companies assured that there was no impact on their business continuity.
In response to the issue, both companies have reported to the relevant authorities and started notifying the involved parties via email and written communication from December 14th. They have not received any reports of the leaked personal information being publicly disclosed or misused.
Regarding the nearly year-long gap between the discovery of the situation and its disclosure, they explained that it was due to conducting a comprehensive investigation with external assistance, thoroughly assessing the overall situation and the impact on personal information.
