Fuji Electric Co., Ltd. has disclosed a ransomware attack targeting its wholly-owned subsidiary, Fuji Electric Indonesia (FEID). The incident, which occurred in late November 2024, rendered several PCs and servers in the company’s local network inoperable and raised concerns about potential data leaks involving business partner and employee information.

The attack was first detected on November 27, 2024, when some systems within FEID became inaccessible. In response, FEID swiftly disconnected affected systems from the network to contain the damage and initiated an investigation. By the following day, the company confirmed the issue was caused by ransomware and sought assistance from external cybersecurity experts.

According to Fuji Electric, “there is a possibility that FEID’s business partner’s information may be leaked,” including details such as company names, names of individuals in charge, and other sensitive information. The extent of the breach is still under investigation.

The company took decisive actions to mitigate further damage:

  • Disconnected LAN cables and halted internet communications to isolate affected systems.
  • Engaged external experts to assess the damage, identify the root cause, and guide system restoration.
  • Notified local authorities and requested their cooperation in resolving the issue.

In its announcement, Fuji Electric emphasized its commitment to preventing future incidents. “We will investigate the cause and bolster our security to prevent a recurrence,” the company stated. Efforts to strengthen cybersecurity will extend across its global operations, including both domestic and international subsidiaries.

While the investigation continues, Fuji Electric plans to contact potentially affected business partners individually. The company is also working closely with local police and the Ministry of Communication and Digital to address the breach.

The company apologized for the disruption caused by the incident, stating, “We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and concern this may cause our business partners and other related parties.”
