Manila, Philippines – The Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR) of the Philippines is the latest government agency that has allegedly been hit by a data breach, reportedly attacked by a threat actor identified as XMacoyX. The threat actor purportedly defaced the bureau’s website and issued an ultimatum demanding that the bureau secure its systems within 24 hours or face the public release of its database.
Yesterday, the defaced webpage displayed a message from XMacoyX, warning that the bureau’s database would be leaked if the issue was not resolved.
Earlier today, accompanying the threat, the threat actor allegedly shared a directory listing of compromised SQL databases, including critical systems like BAR’s content management system, electronic library, and personnel database with sensitive information such as email addresses, telephone numbers, usernames, address and other personal data were exposed.
Further evidence of the alleged breach was posted on social media by XMacoyX, who shared links to the leaked data and backups of the dump. The leaked data, containing records of names, email addresses, and other personal details, is now reportedly publicly accessible.
The Deep Web Konek Team immediately informed BAR officials about the said breach and have yet to release a statement regarding the alleged breach or the actions being taken to mitigate the damage.
